The Baarsjes has some great small shops, a well stocked bio-hip cornershop, great fresh Thai food at Thai Thai Poppetje just a few doors down and you're at walking distance of food&cultural hotspot The Hallen, the Vondelpark, and many other places.

The neighborhood has been designed in the style of the "Amsterdamse School" movement, an expressionist movement with social ideals. You'll find many classic Amsterdamse School buildings (such as "het Sieraad", and housing block on the Witte de Withstraat) literally around the corner, or can see the 'skirt architecture' at play in the building & the street.
