Neighbourhood
For centuries, this neighbourhood is the home and workplace of many artists and free spirits. The house where the philosopher Spinoza lived is just around the corner. Three master painters of the Golden Age, Paulus Potter, Jan van Goyen and Jan Steen lived and worked from the Dunne Bierkade (opposite the apartment), the place where beer was delivered into the city. You can still enjoy a beer here, cosy establishments can be found along the old routes of the canal boats, with appropriate names like De Pakschuit or De Paas. The canals and old avenues are being restored more and more. You can embark on a boat cruise of The Hague or the neighbouring municipalities. Those who like to discover on their own can hire canoes and explore the waterways themselves.
