Haags Historisch Museum

About this museum

Please note that the Haags Historisch Museum is currently undergoing a significant renovation and expansion, and is anticipated to reopen in spring 2028. This extensive project, supported by a €17.7 million investment from the city, aims to revitalize the monumental building, enhance accessibility, and completely renew its permanent exhibitions and public programs. While the physical museum doors are closed, the spirit of The Hague's rich history remains vibrant.

During this renovation period, the Haags Historisch Museum continues to engage with the city and its visitors through a variety of activities. You can still experience the museum's essence through guided walks, insightful tours, and engaging educational programs offered throughout Den Haag. Additionally, keep an eye out for special displays of key pieces from the collection at other prominent locations. For instance, Jan van Goyen's iconic "Gezicht op Den Haag" (View of The Hague) is currently on view at the Atrium Den Haag, offering a glimpse into the museum's treasures even as its main building transforms.

Even with the museum temporarily closed, exploring Den Haag is easy thanks to its comprehensive public transport network, operated by HTM. To participate in any of the museum's temporary activities or to visit other city attractions, consider purchasing tickets via the HTM app or using an OV-chipkaart. For tourists, day and multi-day tickets like the Tourist Day Ticket (valid across South Holland) or the HTM 3-day ticket offer convenient and cost-effective travel. For example, tram 16 provides easy access to central locations like the Binnenhof and Mauritshuis Museum, often near where temporary museum activities or collection highlights might be showcased.
