The Amsterdam city center can be extremely busy, there is always something to do and going on, locals and tourists riding their bikes, everyone getting lost on the canals, hundreds of bridges, squares and coffeeshops.
The so called Bos en Lommer area where the apartment is located, is more quiet and 'local,' plus, upcoming! In the past few years new renovating projects have been realized such as the Westergasfabriek, De Hallen, and De School, which make it a more and more popular neighborhood to settle, not as touristy (yet!) as De Pijp or De Jordaan (which is only a milestone away).
All together, this is a great location to escape the busyness of the city center, but still easy and quickly to reach. Blend in with the locals, and become an 'Amsterdammertje' :-)
