IJburg is a modern, family-friendly suburb on Amsterdam's east side, built on artificial islands in the IJmeer. It offers a rare mix: a small cinema, Saturday market, diverse restaurants and cafes, plus a sandy beach for summer swims. The nearby shopping center has a bakery, supermarket, butcher, fishmonger, and pharmacy. The area is safe and green, with easy access to the Diemerpark nature reserve. While it's a 13-minute tram ride from Central Station, you'll feel a world away from the tourist crowds.
