About Oostenburg

Oostenburg is a former shipyard island in Amsterdam's Oostelijke Eilanden district, now transformed into a peaceful residential enclave with a rich maritime history. Its wide streets, modern apartment blocks, and repurposed industrial buildings create a calm, village-like atmosphere just east of the city center. The area is popular with families and creatives, thanks to its spacious housing, community gardens, and the nearby Oosterpark. Stay here if you want a quiet base with easy access to Amsterdam's cultural hotspots, but prefer to avoid the tourist crowds of the Canal Belt. Highlights include the Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum) a short walk away, the lively Dappermarkt market street, and the green expanse of Oosterpark with its open-air cinema in summer. Public transport is excellent: tram lines 3 and 14 stop at the Muiderpoortstation, and the Muiderpoort train station offers direct connections to Amsterdam Centraal in 5 minutes. Cyclists will love the direct bike paths to the city center and the nearby Zeeburgereiland nature areas.
