About this museum
The Visserij- en Cultuurhistorisch Museum in Woudrichem is currently undergoing an exciting transformation, preparing to reopen in the future as Museum De Rivier. During this transition in 2026, the museum is closed to visitors as it meticulously undertakes a 'de-collection process'. This involves carefully cataloging and rehoming items from its existing collection, guided by a conservator, to curate a refreshed experience for future guests.
While closed, the museum plans to offer glimpses into this process through temporary exhibitions, allowing a unique insight into the evolution of its collection. Upon reopening as Museum De Rivier, visitors can anticipate an immersive journey into the rich history of fishing and local culture, likely focusing on the profound influence of the surrounding rivers on Woudrichem and its community. Expect exhibits that delve into the region's heritage, traditional livelihoods, and the stories shaped by these vital waterways.
For future visits to Museum De Rivier, adult admission is anticipated to be €5.00, with a reduced rate of €2.50 for youth aged 4 to 12. Groups of 10 or more can enjoy a special rate of €4.50 per person, and guided tours are available for €15.00 (excluding entrance fees for up to 10 persons). Those interested in photography can arrange a photo reportage for €25.00, which includes access for two people and a photographer.
