Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam

About this museum

Step into the powerful history of the Dutch Resistance during World War II at the Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam. Recognized as the best historical museum in the Netherlands by some, this institution offers a balanced and well-presented exploration of the choices ordinary people faced under German occupation, from adjustment and cooperation to active resistance. The museum underwent a major renovation in 2022, modernizing its permanent exhibitions to offer a compelling and often emotional experience with over 130 personal stories, films, photos, and authentic artifacts. The Verzetsmuseum also features a unique Junior section, allowing younger visitors to learn about the war through the eyes of four children, engaging with reconstructions of their homes and daily lives.

Planning your visit is straightforward. The Verzetsmuseum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, though it observes closures on January 1st, April 27th, and December 25th. Admission for adults is €17.50, children aged 7-17 are €9.50, and those 0-6 years old enter free. A family ticket is available for €40.00. Free entry is granted to holders of a Museumkaart, I Amsterdam City Card, ICOM pass, or Friends of the Verzetsmuseum, as well as companions of visitors with disabilities. Enhance your understanding with a free audio tour, offered in Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, and Dutch Sign Language.

Conveniently located at Plantage Kerklaan 61, directly opposite the main entrance to Artis Zoo, the museum is easily accessible. From Amsterdam Central Station, you can take Tram 14 directly to the "Artis" stop. Alternatively, metro lines 51, 53, or 54 will take you to Waterlooplein, from where it's a short walk via the "Artis" exit. For those who prefer walking, it's about a 10-minute stroll from Waterlooplein. Several parking garages are also nearby, including Muziektheater/Stadhuis and Markenhoven.

Please note that while general admission prices are current for 2026, prices for guided tours and specific audio guides (e.g., €7.00 per person) are scheduled to change on August 31, 2026.
