About this museum
Step into a profound piece of World War II history at the Stg. Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel in Den Haag. This former Scheveningen prison, known as the 'Oranjehotel' by those detained, held over 25,000 individuals during the Nazi occupation, including resistance fighters, Jews, and others who defied German laws. The museum serves as a poignant memorial, offering visitors a unique opportunity to connect with the personal stories of fear, hope, faith, and patriotism that unfolded within its walls.
Your visit includes a free audio guide, allowing for an individual and immersive experience through the permanent exhibition. Explore preserved cells, including Cell 601, where those condemned to death spent their final night, and discover original inscriptions left by prisoners on the walls. The exhibits vividly illustrate the prison regime, the broader occupation, the Dutch Resistance, and how post-war society grappled with this challenging past. An advisory age of at least 8 years is recommended due to the sensitive nature of the content.
The museum is generally open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with specific hours for special events like the Memorial Oranjehotel on September 19, 2026, and adjusted closing times on December 5 and 31, 2026. Please note that the museum is closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Admission is €12.50 for adults, with reduced rates for youth (8-24 years old) at €7.00 and a family ticket (2 adults, 2 youth) for €35.00. Groups of 15 or more receive a discounted rate of €10.00 per person. Museumkaart holders, donors, protectors, and those with a Veteran Card/ICOM enter free.
