Purmerends Museum

About this museum

Discover Purmerend's rich past and artistic heritage at the Purmerends Museum, perfectly situated at Kaasmarkt 20 in the heart of the old city centre. Housed in the charming former town hall since 1955, the museum offers an engaging journey through the city's history, alongside its acclaimed collection of Jugendstil earthenware, a testament to Purmerend's significant role in Art Nouveau pottery production.

Throughout 2026, the museum enhances its offerings with compelling temporary exhibitions. From April 17 to October 18, explore "Onno Theelen's Vreemde Snuiters," showcasing a selection of unique ceramic sculptures. Following this, from May 8 to August 23, immerse yourself in "Peter Elias - De Kracht van Abstractie," an exhibition featuring eighteen vibrant abstract paintings, many created in recent years.

Planning your visit is straightforward. The museum welcomes guests Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Please note, it is closed on Mondays and specific holidays including January 1st, Easter Sunday, King's Day, Whitsunday, and December 25th. The Purmerends Museum is fully accessible for wheelchair users, providing a lift, wheelchair, and a disabled toilet for convenience.
