Nederlands Zilvermuseum Schoonhoven

About this museum

Discover the intricate world of silver at the Nederlands Zilvermuseum Schoonhoven, a captivating museum dedicated entirely to this precious metal. Located in the heart of Schoonhoven, known as the "Silver City," the museum offers an interactive and educational journey, allowing visitors to see, feel, and even smell silver. Explore a rich collection spanning from the 15th century to contemporary pieces, with a particular focus on silver utensils from 1850 to 1950, showcasing the evolution of craftsmanship.

The museum regularly hosts engaging temporary exhibitions and offers hands-on activities. From October 30, 2025, to September 13, 2026, immerse yourself in "Please Touch!", an exhibition that challenges traditional museum norms by encouraging tactile engagement with silver objects. Additionally, explore "Between Softness & Strength – Elise van Staveren," which combines paintings with silver to explore themes of time and memory. Children can embark on a treasure hunt with a silver workshop piece, while guided tours provide deeper insights into the craft.

Plan your visit Tuesday through Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission for adults is €14.00, while children aged 0-17 enjoy free entry (up to four children per paying adult). Museumkaart holders, CJP holders, and various other groups also receive discounted or free admission. Group visits outside regular hours can be arranged by request.

Reaching the museum at Kazerneplein 4 is straightforward. If arriving by car, Schoonhoven generally offers free parking; for longer stays, P2 towards the ferry is recommended, a pleasant 5 to 10-minute walk away. Be aware that Doelenplein parking has time restrictions and is unavailable on Wednesday mornings due to the market. Buses should also utilize P2, as narrow streets prevent large vehicles from accessing Doelenplein.
