About this museum
Nestled within the scenic De Manteling van Walcheren nature reserve, between Oostkapelle and Domburg, Museum Terra Maris invites visitors on an immersive journey through the rich nature and diverse landscape of Zeeland. Housed in the former orangery of Westhove Castle, the museum offers engaging exhibitions that delve into the region's natural history, illustrating how wind, water, and human activity have shaped this unique coastal environment. Beyond the indoor displays, a 2.5-hectare landscape garden provides a real-world impression of Zeeland's varied ecosystems, from dunes to wetlands.
Planning your visit is straightforward. The museum is generally open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, especially from April 1, 2026. Admission for adults (17+) is €13.00, while children (4-16 years) can enter for €10.00, with free entry for those up to 3 years old. The Netherlands Museum Pass is valid here, and group discounts are available for 15 or more people, priced at €11.50 for adults and €9.00 for children at the ticket office. Keep an eye out for potential promotional prices, which may offer a 25% discount on adult tickets if purchased in advance with a voucher. Please note that a €2.50 surcharge applies on specific dates in July and August 2026 for the Medieval Festival.
Accessing Terra Maris is part of the experience. As the museum is located within a nature reserve, visitors arriving by car should use the public parking lot Westhove on Domburgseweg (N287), near the roundabout at Westhove Castle. From there, a pleasant 800-meter walking path leads directly to the museum. Parking is free from November through March, with paid parking applicable during other months. The area is also well-suited for exploration via hiking and cycling trails, allowing you to fully appreciate the surrounding natural beauty.
Looking ahead, the Provincial Council of Zeeland has expressed its intention to contribute €450,000 towards a significant renovation. This planned modernization aims to transform Terra Maris into an even more contemporary nature museum, enhancing the visitor experience for a broad audience in the coming years.
