Het Nieuwe Instituut
About this museum
Explore the vibrant intersection of architecture, design, and digital culture at Het Nieuwe Instituut, nestled within Rotterdam's green Museumpark. This prominent cultural hub invites visitors to delve into innovative exhibitions, engage with thought-provoking research, and discover the future of creative disciplines. Don't miss the opportunity to combine your visit with a tour of the adjacent Sonneveld House, a beautifully preserved example of functionalist architecture from the 1930s, offering a unique glimpse into Dutch modern living.
Planning your visit is straightforward, with the institute open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Thursdays offer extended hours until 9:00 PM, with the added benefit of free admission from 5:00 PM onwards, making it an ideal evening outing. Located conveniently at Museumpark 25, it's just a pleasant 15-minute walk from Rotterdam Centraal. Alternatively, public transport options abound, with metro access to Eendrachtsplein, tram lines 8 or 4, and bus 44 all serving the area. If driving, consider the Museumpark car park (though space may be limited) or the free Transferium Rotterdam Kralingse Zoom, followed by a short metro ride.
Admission for adults combining Het Nieuwe Instituut with Sonneveld House is €18.00, while children under 18 enjoy free entry. Various discounts are available for students, CJP cardholders, and groups, with free access also granted to Museumkaart and Rotterdampas holders. Please note for late 2026 travel plans: Het Nieuwe Instituut will be undergoing renovations and 'greening' of its building from August 9 to early December 2026. This means the institute will be closed during this period, so plan your trip accordingly to experience their engaging programs and exhibits outside these dates.
